Note: the following has been posted by Sarah, Maria's friend, at Maria's request.

"What is serious to men is often very trivial in the sight of God. What in God might appear to us as "play" is perhaps what he Himself takes most seriously. At any rate, the Lord plays and diverts Himself in the garden of His creation, and if we could let go of our own obsession with what we think is the meaning of it all, we might be able to hear His call and follow Him in His mysterious, cosmic dance. We do not have to go very far to catch echoes of that game, and of that dancing. When we are alone on a starlit night; when by chance we see the migrating birds in autumn descending on a grove of junipers to rest and eat; when we see children in a moment when they are really children; when we know love in our own hearts; or when, like the Japanese poet Basho we hear an old frog land in a quiet pond with a solitary splash -- at such times the awakening, the turning inside out of all values, the "newness," the emptiness and the purity of vision that make themselves evident, provide a glimpse of the cosmic dance.

For the world and time are the dance of the Lord in emptiness. The silence of the spheres is the music of a wedding feast. The more we persist in misunderstanding the phenomena of life, the more we analyze them out into strange finalities and complex purposes of our own, the more we involve ourselves in sadness, absurdity and despair. But it does not matter much, because no despair of ours can alter the reality of things; or stain the joy of the cosmic dance which is always there. Indeed, we are in the midst of it, and it is in the midst of us, for it beats in our very blood, whether we want it to or not.

Yet the fact remains that we are invited to forget ourselves on purpose, cast our awful solemnity to the winds and join in the general dance."

Get Up Stand Up

Trigger Warning: the following entry was written by Maria on March 10th, 2019, and has been subsequently posted by Sarah, Maria's friend, on the 49th day after her death. It contains discussion of self-inflicted euthanasia. If this topic is particularly sensitive for you, please be forewarned.

Today is March 10th - International Human Rights Day.  I want to write an inspirational, eloquent note, but I’m too exhausted.  I’ll keep it short and just be frank.

I’m at peace with ending my life. But it brings up two important human rights issues which I’d like to share.  Let’s ponder them deeply.

One is that ElectricHypersensitivity (EHS) in its severe manifestations forces people to become Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Refugees.  What rights do refugees have?  I’m not sure. I don’t know the law.  What I do know is not being able to find safe housing because of dangerous levels of EMFs is certainly a human rights dilemma.  Is it not?  Having to flee one’s home without the possibility of asylum or a safe haven is terrifying.  To be sick and homeless and in survival mode is wrong.

I request that EMF refugees be treated with the concern and attention which other refugees receive.  Put us on the international agenda.  How about a story on the nightly news?

As Nick Pineault writes in his AWESOME book The Non-Tinfoil Guide to EMFs, “What’s happening to people with EHS is a crime against humanity.”  Well put, Nick.  'Nuf said.

Second, heaps of people have extreme debilitating chronic illnesses.  The worst kind, of course, is one that’s not terminal.  That’s a life sentence of torture and isolation in many cases.  It is quite natural and understandable that at some point folks like this decide it’s time to die.  No easy decision, but nonetheless it happens.

However, as it turns out, ending one’s life is no simple task.  There’s very, very little practical or emotional or spiritual support.

In my book, this is a human rights issue that needs to be addressed now.  People who have already endured tremendous obstacles should have the choice to opt out.  The methods available now are either violent, bloody, or demeaning.  Trust me.

However, if you happen to be Fido or Mr. Whiskers, then no problem.  When your time is over and you’re clearly in terrible pain and have no interest in walks or toys or treats, then your owner will shower you with compassion and love.  The mobile vet will come to the house where you feel safe and at ease.  You can put your head in your beloved owner’s lap while she strokes your head.  The vet gives a shot and voila, it’s over.  Easy peasy.  No shame, no secrets, no illegal purchases, no dehumanizing activities.

Why is this?  I don’t understand and I’m deeply troubled.  Why should humans be told they must “hang in there” or “don’t give up” when clearly that is not kind or compassionate?  Humans deserve the right to not be poisoned by EMFs, chemicals, and other pollutants.  Humans deserve the right to have safe housing.  And humans deserve the right to die when we’re ready - with dignity and care and support.  Drugs should be available to put us “to sleep” just as we do with our pets.

I put a picture of Bob Marley (well, actually Sarah put it) because I love his song “Get Up, Stand Up”.  Play that after you read this.  Very powerful.

Now you see the light.  You gotta stand up for your rights.

Favorite Things

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,

These are a few of my favorite things.”

I don’t know how much I love or, quite frankly, think about bright copper kettles.  And I’m definitely not a fan of warm woolen mittens - unless that’s a metaphor for the Mediterranean Ocean.  BUT…I do have a lot of favorite things.  And while things don’t bring true happiness, as Maria sings, they do help when the dog bites and the bee stings.

May you find some impermanent joy in these compounded phenomena!  Bee Well.  xoxo

Canary Dies

Maria (Sargent) August

Ani Thupten Tsondru

August 3, 1970 - March 12, 2019

On March 12th, I chose to end my Earth Walk and reunite with the Mother of All Things. I wanted to free myself from the straightjacket of electrifying pain and neurological debilitation of Electro-Hypersensitivity (EHS) and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV). These hidden modern-day epidemics humbled me and connected me to the great suffering of others. Yet, they also shattered and dehumanized me. The constant tension of strange symptoms and crushing pain left me cut off from a life of embodied prayer and active altruism; I felt alienated from my true nature and impotent to be of service. I decided the greater good was to give my life with the aspiration to raise awareness and help others. As Thomas Merton said, “Man has no greater love than that he lay down his life for his friend.”

If anyone asks, you can say I ended my own life. But it would be more accurate to say I died from Electromagnetic Field (EMF) poisoning. I am not ashamed of my actions. They were based on compassion for my own suffering and the desire to prevent more people from becoming sick.

I’m not the first person with Electro-Hypersensitivity (EHS) to die by their own hand, but perhaps I’m the first to publicize it. And that’s my whole intention. Let me be the posterchild for this 21 st century plague. Let me be the impetus for positive change. What sends a stronger message than death? The message is: seek the truth and learn how to protect yourselves. The message is: create housing opportunities for people with EHS.

Manmade Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) at current astronomical levels are unprecedented in human history. And they are not safe. Human cells cannot function properly under this 24/7 radiation shower. That is why people are getting sick. I chose to die so you would know how important it is to reduce your exposure to this invisible toxin. I chose to die so the world would see that safe camps for EMF refugees are desperately needed.

EHS has all the ingredients of torture: cause someone intolerable pain, separate them from the community, and prevent them from sleeping. Is that a risk you are willing to take? Is that a life you want for your children? It’s much, much easier to prevent than to cure. And those, like me, who get a severe case, find there is nowhere to live, detox, and recover. Let us care for this growing population of our society. Now is the time to start developing wilderness Safe Havens. Every person deserves a safe place to call home.

I do not want a funeral, memorial service, or life celebration. Instead, please help the
living by honoring my three final wishes. Thank you and may you be well.

  1. Take simple steps to lower your EMF exposure and stay healthy. Organize housing for people sick with EHS. Resources for this are: the fantastic book The Non-Tinfoil Guide to EMFs and the Safe Haven tab at
  2. Cleanse your body of radiation, viruses, heavy metals, and pesticides, which cause EHS and other chronic illnesses, including lupus, Lyme, MS, RA, and cancer. It’s fun and yummy!  Read the beautiful book Life Changing Foods by Anthony William.
  3. Take extra good care of each other. Spend time each week in loving service to a sick, injured, or housebound person. Let them know they are not forgotten. This is the true purpose of being human. Resources for this are: the books Everybody Always by Goff, Peace Pilgrim, and the TLC Book tab at

May my death usher in a new era, an era in which EHS and EBV are taken seriously, diagnosed correctly, treated immediately, and prevented widely. May this be an era of permaculture eco-villages, bountiful food forests, abundant altruism and safe technologies. I gladly sacrifice my life for that purpose. May it be so!

Visit my blog,, for more information and continued updates from friends.  Look for me in the sun, the moon, and the stars. Pray that I’ve melted into Mother Luminosity and am helping all beings, in all worlds, in all ways. May the bodhichitta flourish!

Hello Friends.

I have gone on to the clear light. Rejoice that I am free and celebrate this glorious transition.  I am at peace.

Speaking of peace, our beloved Peace Pilgrim said prayer is a concentration of positive thoughts.  Now is the time to wish me well on this journey.  Please light a candle (don't blow it out) and offer your prayers that my spiritual aspirations are realized:  That I'm helping all beings, in all worlds, in all ways.

May you be well.  May all beings benefit.  And may the precious bodhichitta flourish.  Thanks and XO.

p.s.  If you're so inclined, please chant the Heart Sutra mantra.  Gracias.

Power Smoothie

Actually the real name of this deliciously rich and highly nutritious concoction is "Take Back Your Power Smoothie." It's named after Josh del Sol Beaulieu's award-winning documentary: Take Back Your Power 2017 (FREE on YouTube).

There's a movement happening and I invite you to join. It's a movement towards freedom, choice, health, and safety. Watch the movie and you'll see what I mean.

We cannot continue to pretend life is how it's always been. Wireless technology, the Internet, Google and "smart" everything have changed the world. And not for the better. In addition to bathing you in harmful microwave radiation, modern devices link you, your family, and your personal information to a Super Grid. Government authorities, big business, marketing agencies and even terrorists watch you, your habits, and your preferences.

This may sound like space-age woo woo or paranoid conspiracy theory, but I assure you it's not. It's real. It is now. And if 5G is implemented, it will only be worse.

Take the time to educate and empower yourself. Protect your privacy, health, and the people you love. The choice is up to you. But it's hard to make a choice if you don't have all the info.

Watch the video and make the smoothie. Then you can choose. Super Good, not Super Grid! Yum.
